We went live! Check out this video where we went live with Hollani Davis of WPTV to talk about all the in’s and out’s of Back to School Dorm Room Trends.
Must Have Dorm Items
Moving into your dorm room for the first time can be really exciting, but also a little overwhelming. You have a whole new space to decorate and reflect personal style. You’ll spend so much time reading, sleeping, and hanging out in your room, you’ll want it to feel like home.
The first MUST have is an obvious one… stylish and comfy dorm bedding. Remember that the bed is the focal point of the room. Start with the sheets. Make sure you check with the University to see the size sheets you will need. Most dorm rooms require TXL sheets. Then, you’re going to want to choose your bed covering. This blush pink quilt is a best seller. Add fun throw pillows and our exclusive bed scarf to the bottom of the bed to add color and pattern to the bedding.
One of our favorite must haves is a dorm headboard. A dorm headboard is a great way to add comfort and style to your dorm. We love these padded headboards that are lightweight and super easy to apply with command tab hooks. They’re perfect to sit back and relax, study, or binge watch Netflix with your roomie.
HOW TO MAXIMIZE SMALL SPACE
You definitely want to make sure to coordinate with your roommate. Decide who is bringing what so there aren’t any duplicates taking up precious space. We also encourage students to check with their school website to see what it included in the room (microwaves, refrigerator) then dive up the items needed accordingly.
A great way to make the room appear larger is to have a cohesive design throughout the room. You can choose the same dorm decor as your roomie or you can mix and match your coordinating sets which bring a different look and personality.
One of our favorite dorm room hacks is to utilize the space under the bed as storage. In any small space, multifunctional pieces are a must – bonus points if they’re equally stylish. You can create extra closet space using plastic drawers and a tension rod for hanging. A great way to hide this, maybe not so cute, storage is with an extended length dorm bed skirt. Most dorm beds are going to be lofted. These bed skirts are 34 inches long, allowing you to have the bed raised for that extra storage. The dorm bed skirts are designed with a slit in the center, making it easy to access your under bed storage.
Trends We’re Seeing
This year we’re seeing tons of fun and unique trends that were loving.
Neutrals are definitely trending right now. As you can see, blush is the new neutral. We also love tans and white color combos in neutral bedding.
Being in Palm Beach, we are suckers for a palm leaf. This palm leaf print has been extremely popular. We are also seeing florals popping up in dorm design and love how they are soft and sophisticated but chic.
One of my personal favorite trends is the boho look. Here, we’re seeing tons of texture (like metallics, crochet, or furs), mixtures of pattern, and unique and unexpected design elements.
For all our Fixer Upper fans… Girls can’t get enough of the farmhouse look. We love how farmhouse design brings in patterns like gingham check, ticking stripe and cowhide, and even an urban and industrial feel.
We saw a huge need for cool dorm bedding for guys. This year, we launched our Guys Dorm Bedding line. In guys dorm rooms, think neutrals… grey, blacks and reds, navy and tans. Keep it super simple but stately.
We had so much fun hanging out with WPTV and talking everything dorm. We can’t wait to do it again! What is your favorite dorm bedding trend?
